James Howe, son of Robert, came to Massachusetts from England with his brother, Abraham, settling first in Roxbury, then moving on to Salem and Ipswich.He married Elizabeth, the daughter of John Dane and Frances (Bowyer) Dane of Roxbury, Massachusetts.James was a weaver by trade and he served as juror and constable as well.James lived at "Ipswich Farms"south of the Rowley-Ipswich boundary line, where he built two houses, the second of which had a front door driven full of nails to prevent the Indians from cutting through.His sons James and Abraham also had houses on the estate, which later became the homestead of Mrs. JAMES 1 HOWE was born May 1598 in Hatfield, Bread Oak, Essex, England 1, and died in Ipswich, MA.He married ELIZABETH DANE.She died January 21, 1693/94 in Ipswich, MA 2.
